	Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS With a 4.4x zoom, a 12-megapixel sensor, and easily pocketable style, the Canon 500 HS is targeted at the casual shooter, but has a touchscreen interface that's both intriguing and confounding at the same time. The 500 HS has plenty of features, though, starting with an f/2.0, 24-105mm equivalent, image-stabilized lens, 1080p Full HD video, and 8.2 frame-per-second (reduced res) capture, along with a whole host of special modes for easy photography in many situations, including low light. But it's becoming clear that touchscreen-operated cameras are a significantly different beast than traditional cameras with similar specs. 	Canon PowerShot Elph 500 HS The good: The Canon PowerShot Elph 500 HS has a nice f2.0 ultrawide-angle lens, excellent photo quality for its class and a nice mix of shooting modes. The bad: The 500 HS's touch interface is potentially frustrating and its shooting performance is a little slow. The bottom line: The touch-screen controls keep the Canon PowerShot Elph 500 HS from being a lower-cost PowerShot S95 alternative for enthusiasts, but its otherwise a very good ultracompact. The HS system helps take pictures in low light without relying on the use of the flash or a tripod. This is also helped by the f/2.0 lens which also increases the chances of taking excellent sharp shots of fast moving subjects. 	Slow Motion with the Canon PowerShot 500 HS When I first handled the Canon PowerShot 500 HS, I wasn’t too pleased with the effectiveness of the touchscreen interface; however, the more I used it, the more fun I had with the camera. One of the features I enjoyed the most on the PowerShot 500 HS is its ability to capture high-speed video up to 240 fps, albeit at a lower resolution than the camera’s 1920 x 1080 resolution when shooting 24p or 30p. 	Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS First Look Another day, another touchscreen camera. The Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS was rolled out in early February - about the time when we used to go to that one trade show - with an "HS" designation and a big 3.2-inch touchscreen. That HS stands for High Sensitivity. Translated from Canon-ese, that means the ELPH 500 has a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor (12.1 megapixels in this case) and a DIGIC 4 processor. 	Canon IXUS 310 HS review - Can this robust model kick rivals into touch? The latest example is the 12.1-megapixel IXUS 310 HS that differs from the norm in offering a huge 3.2-inch 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio touchscreen at the back, proffering good visibility. There’s only a single physical button on the back plate and it’s the one for playing back images. Delivering that wow factor, screen visibility is aided by a 461k-dot resolution, the kind of spec normally found on premium compacts. Yet this one was retailing for a street price just under £250 at the time of writing. It's responsive and easy to use in most instances though smaller onscreen controls can be fiddly, and with no physical controls to fall back on it can get frustrating to use. Otherwise it's a capable mid-range compact with a 4.4x zoom lens, good image quality, Full HD video and notably good low light performance. March 24, 2011

	Canon IXUS 310 HS Canon has released a bunch of cameras in the past with the HS tag, which simply denotes the camera has a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor and the Digic 4 image processor. They're designed to be better at picking up light in dim situations and let the camera be quick and speedy with its shooting. 	Canon Ixus 310 HS Essentially an update to the Ixus 300 HS, Canon's new 12.1-megapixel Ixus 310 HS provides a slightly higher-resolution sensor, a wider zoom range and a larger LCD monitor with higher resolution and a widescreen aspect ratio.
