Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS
With a 4.4x zoom, a 12-megapixel sensor, and easily pocketable style, the Canon 500 HS is targeted at the casual shooter, but has a touchscreen interface that's both intriguing and confounding at the same time. The 500 HS has plenty of features, though, starting with an f/2.0, 24-105mm equivalent, image-stabilized lens, 1080p Full HD video, and 8.2 frame-per-second (reduced res) capture, along with a whole host of special modes for easy photography in many situations, including low light.

Canon PowerShot Elph 500 HS
If the idea of an almost-all-touchscreen camera appeals to you, the Canon PowerShot Elph 500 HS ($300) is one of the best point-and-shoot options in that class. But it's becoming clear that touchscreen-operated cameras are a significantly different beast than traditional cameras with similar specs. Because of its touchscreen, this camera acts more like a phone than a more-traditional camera, and that brings its fair share of pros and cons.

Canon PowerShot Elph 500 HS
The good: The Canon PowerShot Elph 500 HS has a nice f2.0 ultrawide-angle lens, excellent photo quality for its class and a nice mix of shooting modes.
The bad: The 500 HS's touch interface is potentially frustrating and its shooting performance is a little slow.
The bottom line: The touch-screen controls keep the Canon PowerShot Elph 500 HS from being a lower-cost PowerShot S95 alternative for enthusiasts, but its otherwise a very good ultracompact.

Canon IXUS 310 HS review
The 12.1 megapixel Canon IXUS 310 HS digital camera, introduced in February this year, is a typical IXUS camera and thereby guarantees high image quality and a sleek, stainless steel body. The Canon IXUS 310 HS is characterized by its speed, versatility and creative control. It can be operated via the touch screen which is 8.0cm in size. The Canon IXUS 310 HS is also equipped with Canon`s HS System, which combines the 12 Megapixel CMOS sensor with the DIGIC 4 image processor for higher performance in low light and Hi-Speed shooting possibilities. The Canon IXUS 310HS has been available since March for a suggested retail price of 329.00 Euros.

Canon IXUS 310 HS / PowerShot ELPH 500 HS
Announced in February 2011, the Canon IXUS 310 HS, (or PowerShot ELPH 500 HS as it's known in North America) is Canon's latest touch-screen compact. This is the first touch-screen model to carry the HS suffix, which stands for High Sensitivity and provides superior low-light shooting performance using a back-illuminated 12.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor.
The IXUS 310 HS / ELPH 500 HS has a 4.4x stabilised optical zoom with a wide f2.0 maximum aperture and an ultra-wide angle 24mm maximum field of view. As well as the automatic shooting modes you'd expect, it also sports Program, Aperture and Shutter-priority exposure modes, and can shoot Full HD video at 1080p.

Canon IXUS 310 HS review - The high-performance compact with a sense of style
Canon's latest crop of IXUS compacts continues to target fashion-conscious photographers who don't want to compromise on features, with the new 12.1mp IXUS 310 HS replacing the 10mp 300 HS.
While the latest model may not look all that different to its predecessor, it packs in a glut of upgraded features, including a higher resolution back-illuminated CMOS sensor, wider 24mm 4.4x optical zoom lens with Image Stabilisation, larger 3.2in LCD with a significantly higher resolution (461,000-dots compared to 230,000) and Full HD movie recording - an improvement over the 300 HS' 720p offering.

Canon IXUS 310 HS Digital Compact Camera Review
The Canon Digital IXUS 310 HS was released in February 2011 as part of Canon's range of premium compact cameras with a lens designed for taking great shots in low-light situations. It is available in silver, gold, brown and pink for £244.00. The Canon Digital IXUS 310 HS is also known as the Canon Powershot ELPH 500 HS in America.
The HS system helps take pictures in low light without relying on the use of the flash or a tripod. This is also helped by the f/2.0 lens which also increases the chances of taking excellent sharp shots of fast moving subjects. The lens is 4.3mm, 4.4x optical zoom which is a 35mm equivalent of 24 - 105mm. The camera has optical image stabilisation to reduce blur caused by camera shake.

Slow Motion with the Canon PowerShot 500 HS
When I first handled the Canon PowerShot 500 HS, I wasn’t too pleased with the effectiveness of the touchscreen interface; however, the more I used it, the more fun I had with the camera.
One of the features I enjoyed the most on the PowerShot 500 HS is its ability to capture high-speed video up to 240 fps, albeit at a lower resolution than the camera’s 1920 x 1080 resolution when shooting 24p or 30p.

Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS Review
The Canon 500 HS combines a stylish touchscreen with some serious hardware including an f/2 lens. It's a better-than-average compact with a few quirks.
The Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS wants to do it all. It wants to capture a style-conscious market with its smooth curves and 3.2-inch touchscreen. It wants to be brighter than the competition with a fast f/2 lens. It wants be a movie-maker with 1080p HD recording capability.

Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS First Look
Another day, another touchscreen camera. The Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS was rolled out in early February - about the time when we used to go to that one trade show - with an "HS" designation and a big 3.2-inch touchscreen. That HS stands for High Sensitivity. Translated from Canon-ese, that means the ELPH 500 has a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor (12.1 megapixels in this case) and a DIGIC 4 processor. We first saw this technology in the PowerShot SD4000 with several models following since then.

Canon IXUS 310 HS review - Can this robust model kick rivals into touch?
The latest example is the 12.1-megapixel IXUS 310 HS that differs from the norm in offering a huge 3.2-inch 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio touchscreen at the back, proffering good visibility. There’s only a single physical button on the back plate and it’s the one for playing back images.
Delivering that wow factor, screen visibility is aided by a 461k-dot resolution, the kind of spec normally found on premium compacts. Yet this one was retailing for a street price just under £250 at the time of writing. Like the equally touchscreen-sporting and identically priced Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX77 (also worth a gander), as expected there’s no room for an optical viewfinder.

Canon Powershot ELPH 500 HS Review
Released in conjunction with the new Powershot ELPH 100 HS and the ELPH 300 HS, Canon's Powershot ELPH 500 HS is their high end model of the ELPH lineup. The ELPH 500 HS sports a 3.2" touch screen LCD as well as a 12.1-Megapixel CMOS sensor for taking pictures. The camera also offers a f/2.0 lens that allows for more natural looking photos and a larger depth of field.

Canon IXUS 310 review
The Canon IXUS 310 is nicely styled with a strikingly enormous touch screen filling almost its entire back. It's responsive and easy to use in most instances though smaller onscreen controls can be fiddly, and with no physical controls to fall back on it can get frustrating to use. Otherwise it's a capable mid-range compact with a 4.4x zoom lens, good image quality, Full HD video and notably good low light performance.

Canon IXUS 310 HS
Canon has released a bunch of cameras in the past with the HS tag, which simply denotes the camera has a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor and the Digic 4 image processor. They're designed to be better at picking up light in dim situations and let the camera be quick and speedy with its shooting.
The Good: Aperture and shutter priority controls, Great touchscreen, big and responsive, Good image quality, Nice bright lens
The Bad: Lens aperture not very wide at telephoto end, Short battery life, Fringing quite pronounced at full magnification

Canon Ixus 310 HS
Essentially an update to the Ixus 300 HS, Canon's new 12.1-megapixel Ixus 310 HS provides a slightly higher-resolution sensor, a wider zoom range and a larger LCD monitor with higher resolution and a widescreen aspect ratio. Canon has also improved the new camera's video capabilities by adding Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) recording at 24 fps to the previous model's 720p capabilities.
